Medical Appointments
Desert Senita encourages patients to see their established primary care provider whenever possible for all preventive, chronic disease, and acute care, to ensure the best continuity of care possible. Medical appointments are scheduled between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:10 p.m., with evening appointments available on Tuesdays until 6:10 p.m. While appointments with your primary care provider is best, Desert Senita also has daily Same Day Clinic slots for those patients who have sudden onset illnesses or injuries which require a same day appointment.
For all types of medical appointments, patients should call the main health center phone number at (520) 387-5651.
After-hours and weekend services, including treatment of simple lacerations, can be accessed through the local 911 emergency system. Services available after-hours and during the weekends are limited due to lack of a local hospital and emergency room, and the lack of ancillary or support services such as lab and x-ray available 24 hours a day. Patients who feel they may have an injury which may be addressed by the medical provider on-call are instructed to dial 911. The dispatcher will then get in contact with Ajo Ambulance, the local ambulance provider, who will determine whether the injury or illness for appropriate referral to the on-call medical provider. The ambulance service will then contact the on-call medical provider, who will make arrangements to treat the patient at the health center, if appropriate.
Dental Appointments
In January 2009, Desert Senita Dental Center moved into its beautiful, newly expanded facility. A second dentist will be added to the dentist and hygienist team. Both established and new patients should call (520) 387-4500 to be scheduled for routine care and/or dental emergencies. Dental staff will schedule all other types of appointments according to the treatment plan outlined by the dentist.
Behavioral Health Appointments
Patients who feel they may need behavioral health services should call (520) 387-5651 to make an appointment. If necessary, patients may also be referred for behavioral health services by Desert Senita medical and dental providers. For participants in the AHCCCS (Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System) program, the State of Arizona contracts with a county-based Regional Behavioral Health Authority (RBHA) for traditional counseling and case management services. AHCCCS members who reside in Ajo and who may be in need of traditional counseling services should contact the local Regional Behavioral Health Authority (RBHA), Project PPEP, to complete the eligibility and registration process to receive services locally. Project PPEP can be reached at (520) 387-5232.
