Organizational Support and Structure

Desert Senita Community Health Center is a private, non-profit 501(c)3 organization that depends on a variety of funding sources, including federal and state grants and contracts, revenue from patient visits, and donations. Donations help Desert Senita secure equipment for its medical and dental facilities that might not otherwise be able to be purchased, and may also be used to defray expenses of renovation and expansion projects, such as our dental expansion project which was completed in 2009 and our pharmacy expansion project completed in January 2010. For more information on fundraising and making a donation, please contact Fatima McCasland at (520) 387-5651.

As a small, rural community health center, our management staff and governing board members play an important part in developing and directing the mission of the organization, as well as assisting in fundraising and other public relations activities. There is a fundraising committee made up of Desert Senita governing board members and staff members who assist the organization in meeting its fundraising needs.

The current management team includes dedicated professionals with many, many years of healthcare experience in both the public and private healthcare arenas, including with hospitals, outpatient and urgent care facilities, and with government contractors. The current management team includes:

  • Fatima A. McCasland, Chief Executive Officer
  • Carol Johnson, DO, Medical Director
  • Jane Canon, RN, Quality Improvement (QI)/Case Manager
  • Lydia Larremore, CPC, Business Office Manager
  • Sherry Henley, Accounting Manager

Desert Senita also boasts a dedicated and diverse governing board of directors made up of a variety of community members. According to federal law, the Desert Senita governing board must be made up of at least 50% health center patients. Desert Senita, as the sole provider of health care services in the entire service area, has the distinction of having a governing board made up 100% of health center patients.

The Desert Senita governing board volunteer their time, including at monthly board meetings, committee meetings, at community events, and at health center functions for staff and board members. Many of the Desert Senita board members not only volunteer their time on the Desert Senita Board of Directors, but also lend their expertise and dedication to other community and civic organizations in the Ajo area.
