For those without health or dental insurance:
Desert Senita employs eligibility staff trained in the use of a unique and innovative public insurance eligibility screening software program, Health-e-Arizona. It was developed by El Rio Health Center in Tucson, Arizona, in partnership with several organizations, including AHCCCS (Medicaid), the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES), a collaborative group of Arizona community health centers (including Desert Senita Community Health Center), and experienced consultants.
The Health-e-Arizona program is a “one-stop shop” program used to quickly and easily screen patients without health or dental insurance for AHCCCS (Medicaid), KidsCare, or Desert Senita Health Plan eligibility, as well as screening for Pima Community Access Program (PCAP) specialty care eligibility, if needed. Patients are required to provide residency and income verification documentation to Desert Senita eligibility staff, who then input the information into the Health-e-Arizona software program. Information is then electronically communicated to the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES). DES performs a review of all income and other eligibility data and makes the final determination of eligibility for AHCCCS and/or KidsCare. Use of the Health-e-Arizona program has greatly reduced the amount of time necessary to make the final determination for AHCCCS (Medicaid) and/or KidsCare eligibility, which has in turn significantly improved patient access to care.
If a patient is not eligible for AHCCCS (Medicaid) and/or KidsCare coverage, they are screened for sliding fee scale coverage through the Desert Senita Health Plan. The Desert Senita Health Plan can be used for services provided at Desert Senita sites, which may include medical, dental, and/or behavioral health services. Patients are responsible for paying a portion of the charges for their health care, based on their income.
